History & design
The Digidesign / Avid C|24 is a Pro Tools control surface released from 2007 as the replacement for the Control|24. It is not a console with its own mixing engine: Pro Tools does the processing, while the C|24 provides tactile control and a substantial analogue section. It is now discontinued.
The surface lines up 24 bankable channel strips, each with a touch-sensitive motorised fader, a rotary encoder with LED ring, Mute/Solo/Select keys and dedicated keys (Input, Record, EQ, Dynamics, Insert, Send, Automation) plus dual-row LED scribble-strip displays. It integrates 16 low-noise analogue mic preamps (high-pass filter and variable gain), described as bettering those of the Control|24.
For monitoring, the C|24 carries an integrated 5.1 surround analogue monitor section (5.1, LCRS, stereo presets), stereo and surround metering, trimmable inputs/outputs, a built-in talkback mic with latching and Auto Talkback, and an 8-channel stereo line sub-mixer routable to the monitor section. Communication with Pro Tools (HD and LE) uses Digidesign's proprietary Ethernet protocol, more capable than HUI, which also remains available.
