History & design
The Wheatstone D-8000 is a digital on-air broadcast console of modular construction, aimed at radio and television studios. Fully digital, it hosts digital or analog input modules and offers per-channel processing (EQ, limiter).
Its defining trait is integration with the Wheatstone digital audio network: the console acts as an access point to the company's TDM « Bridge » router — hence the « the network in a console » tagline used by the manufacturer in the early 2000s. The surface uses Penny & Giles long-throw faders and, under serial control from an automation system, shows « Fader Null » indicators. Power comes from SPS-180 or SPS-400 supplies mounted in a PSR rack, with optional failsafe redundancy.
