History & design
The VF160 is an all-in-one digital studio launched in 2000: it combines a 16-track recorder on an internal E-IDE hard disk (20 GB) with a digital mixer in a single chassis. Recording runs 16 tracks at once (8 analog and 8 ADAT digital inputs), with 8 extra virtual tracks for additional takes. Conversion uses a 20-bit, 64x-oversampled A/D and a 24-bit, 128x-oversampled D/A, at 44.1 kHz with 16-bit linear quantisation.
The mixer offers 60 mm faders on all 16 channels, 3-band EQ with parametric mid and high per channel, a master EQ, channel and master compressors, two effect sends and two aux sends per channel, and a 99-mix Scene Memory. Two independent multi-effect DSPs round it out. The inputs take eight mics, two of them on XLR with insert and phantom power, and ADAT optical I/O handles the digital link. Non-destructive editing comes with a zoomable waveform display.
