Our take
History & design
The D-8 and D-9 are digital television audio consoles released by Wheatstone in the mid-2000s on its Gibraltar architecture. The idea: the mixing surface is only a control panel, while processing and routing live in a Gibraltar Network Cage fitted with cards for the required formats (analogue mic/line inputs, AES with sample-rate converters, MADI, HD-SDI de-embedding, GPI logic), all within a crosspoint routing environment. Any input is available to any mix and any output system-wide.
The exact fader, bus and channel counts specific to the D-8 and D-9 have no reliable public source and remain to be verified against period Wheatstone documentation.
