Our take
History & design
The Soundtracs Virtual (often cited as ‘Virtua’ in the press) is Soundtracs' first fully digital mixing console, launched in 1996. Built around a modular surface of angled pods (LED faders, screen, trackball), it is equipped for 64-channel operation and emphasises instant parameter recall, dynamic and snapshot automation, and rapid format reconfiguration. Priced from £18,500 — ‘less than half the cost of the competition’ — it targets studios and post-production while integrating a wide range of analogue and digital devices. It paved the way for Soundtracs' DPC, DS3 and D4, before the 2002 merger into DiGiCo.
