History & design
The Roland VM-7200 is the processor of the V-Mixing System, launched in 1999. This 24-bit rack unit handles 20 XLR/TRS inputs (12 inserts), 24 analogue outputs and digital I/O via the proprietary R-BUS bus and the VE-24E expansion card, with 16 internal buses and two stereo effects processors expandable to eight (VS8F-2 boards).
The surface side is the VM-C7200 console, with 25 motorised faders, 100 scenes, 24 fader groups and 24 mute groups, talkback and three monitor sets. One VM-C7200 console controls one or two VM-7200/7100 processors, reaching up to 94 mixing channels when fully expanded. Splitting processing (rack) from control (surface) was forward-looking for a product at this level.
