History & design
The M-400 is the heart of Roland's V-Mixing system. This 48-channel digital console offers 18 buses, 8 matrices, channel and bus DSP, four stereo FX processors, graphic or 8-band parametric EQs, built-in stereo recording and a multi-channel split port. The surface carries 24 motorised 100 mm touch-sensitive faders and an 800×480 TFT screen.
Its defining strength is REAC (Roland Ethernet Audio Communication): audio from remote preamps travels over CAT5e, a light, low-cost cabling that replaces the analogue multicore. Paired with REAC stageboxes, the M-400 became a fixture in installed sound, light broadcast and above all houses of worship.
