Our take
History & design
The Roland M-480 is a live digital mixing console launched in 2011, the heart of the V-Mixer ecosystem. It handles 48 mixing channels plus 6 stereo returns and a main LCR output, with 27 buses (16 auxes, 8 matrices, plus mono/stereo/LCR mixing). Every channel has a 4-band parametric EQ, a compressor, a gate and delays on all inputs and outputs.
Its key strength is the REAC network (Roland Ethernet Audio Communication): via stage boxes on a single Cat5e cable, the M-480 addresses up to 90 inputs and 90 outputs, all assignable through two A and B patchbays that route any input to any output, even without passing through the mix. Two M-480 cascade with a single REAC cable to reach 96 channels. A rig sized for mid-scale live, worship and theatre.
