Our take
History & design
The DHD RM4200D is a modular digital audio mixing and routing system introduced around 2003 by the German manufacturer DHD (Deubner Hoffmann Digital), aimed at radio and TV studios. It is now discontinued (legacy support).
The system comprises two parts linked by a CAN bus. The DSP Frame houses the input/output modules, the DSP audio engine, the control engine and the power supply; the mixing console is the user interface with its faders, encoders, buttons and displays. The surface is fully modular — up to ten fader modules (RM420-020 / RM420-029), Penny & Giles faders and Lumitas keys — with a 72 mm mounting depth.
The slot-based DSP frame (for example the 30-slot RM420-063) accepts AES3 in/out, MADI (RM420-848M), mic/line and analogue modules, DSP controllers (Ethernet, RS422) and redundant power supplies. Functionally, the RM4200D covers input routing and processing, mic processing, bus assignment, monitoring, talkback, signalling and On-Air switching, clean feed / mix-minus generation, output routing and save/recall of setups.
