Our take
History & design
The Cadac CDC four is British manufacturer CADAC's first production digital mixer, a compact live-oriented console that claims 'the CADAC sound' in a reduced footprint. Its base configuration is 32/4/2: 16 mono mic/line channels and 8 stereo channels, expandable up to 64 inputs via a dedicated CDC stage rack.
The surface offers 16 motorised faders, a 7" TFT colour display and a Central Assignment Module (CAM) that controls EQ, group assignment, VCA control, effects, auxiliaries and dynamics. Processing relies on four 4th-generation SHARC DSPs at 40-bit floating point. True to CADAC DNA, the console carries 16 genuine analogue mic preamps and a fully emulated CADAC EQ; everything runs exclusively at 96 kHz / 24-bit — there are no 48 kHz inputs.
Connectivity-wise, the rear panel provides 16 mic/line inputs, 16 stereo line inputs, per-channel direct outputs and inserts, 4 group outputs, 8 aux outputs, L/R/mono masters, tape and monitor outputs, talkback, MIDI and Ethernet. Construction is all-steel with wood trim.
