Our take
History & design
Unveiled at PLASA 2011 as the flagship of the CDC platform, the CDC eight is a digital live-production console aimed at high-end touring, fixed installation and musical theatre. It offers 128 input channels (expandable to 256), 64 buses and 48 outputs as standard.
The surface comes in two sizes (16 or 32 motorised faders) and accepts a CDC eight-16S sidecar adding 16 faders and a screen. The "high-agility" interface uses two 24-inch 16:10 HD LCD touchscreens and a central 6-inch touchscreen dedicated to system control and automation. Processing is handled by a latest-generation proprietary DSP platform driven by eight 32/40-bit floating-point SHARC processors. Connectivity combines a Cadac proprietary audio transport, MADI I/O and Waves plug-in integration via SoundGrid.
