Our take
History & design
The Allen & Heath Qu-16 is a compact, rackmount digital mixing console launched in 2013 as the first model in the Qu series. It carries over technology from the brand's GLD and iLive systems.
It processes 16 mono input channels and 3 stereo channels to 12 mix buses at a 48 kHz sampling rate. The surface has 17 motorised 100 mm faders across 3 layers and a 5-inch TFT touchscreen (800 × 480). The 16 mic inputs use AnalogiQ digitally-controlled preamps with zero-crossing detection and padless 1 dB-step gain.
The Qu-16 includes the Qu-Drive recorder (up to 18 tracks at 24-bit/48 kHz to a USB drive), four stereo FX engines derived from the iLive systems, and a dSNAKE port for a remote stagebox (AR2412, AB168 or AR84) and the ME personal monitoring system. Wireless control is handled by the Qu-Pad (iPad) and Qu-You (personal monitor) apps. A 'Chrome' revision succeeded the original version.
