History & design
The SD5B is the broadcast version of the SD5, carrying DiGiCo's Stealth Digital Processing architecture and floating-point Super FPGAs into TV and radio production. Its standard configuration provides 253 input channels at 48/96 kHz, up to 128 aux/sub-group busses, a 24×24 processing matrix, a master buss up to 5.1 and 253 dynamic equalizers available on any channel.
The surface carries 37 faders in three banks of twelve plus a master, and three 15-inch colour TFT touchscreens designed for multi-operator work. Broadcast-specific features centre on the two solo busses for PFL and on-air soloing in mono, stereo, LCRS and 5.1, alongside an LR/LCR/LCRS/5.1 master buss. The 2GB optical system carries 448 channels of I/O at 96 kHz, 56 console-to-console tie lines and drives up to fourteen SD-series racks; four redundant MADI ports round out the connectivity, with local I/O offering eight mic/line inputs, eight line outputs and eight mono AES I/O.
