History & design
The AMEK Media 51 is an analogue in-line, digitally controlled console from the mid-1990s, conceived as a cost-effective multiformat solution for music recording, post-production and broadcast. It comes in three frame sizes — 28, 44 and 60 inputs — and handles multichannel natively up to 5.1, with multiformat panning (stereo, LCRS, surround) and comprehensive monitoring of external stems.
Its signal path stays analogue: Rupert Neve-designed mic preamps (0 to +66 dBu gain), a four-band EQ (parametric mids, swept highs/lows, sweepable high/low-pass filters) and transformer-balanced direct outs. Control is digital: SUPERTRUE 4 fader and mute automation, with assignable Virtual Dynamics (per-channel compressor/gate and side-chain filters). It offers 8 auxiliary sends and an extended mix bus structure.
Built to deliver plenty of channels and surround at a contained price, the Media 51 was one of AMEK's last large-format analogue desks before the Harman takeover.
