History & design
Launched in 2017, the SQ-5 is the most compact of Allen & Heath's SQ series. It runs on the XCVI FPGA core clocked at 96 kHz, with under 0.7 ms input-to-output latency. The surface offers 16+1 motorised faders across six layers and a 7-inch capacitive touchscreen.
Each of the 48 channels has a high-pass filter, a fast gate with sidechain, a 4-band parametric EQ and a compressor. DEEP processing adds vintage compressor and EQ emulations, joined by eight stereo FX engines. A 32x32 USB audio interface is built in, and the option slot accepts network cards (Dante, Waves, gigaACE). An Automatic Mic Mixer (AMM) is also on board.
