Our take
History & design
The CQ-18T is the largest desktop mixer in Allen & Heath's CQ range, launched in August 2023. It offers 18 inputs (8 XLR, 8 XLR/TRS combi for 16 mic/line channels, plus one stereo input) and 8 outputs (2 XLR main, 6 TRS monitors), plus two assignable headphone outputs.
It uses the 96 kHz XCVI FPGA engine from the SQ series, with new preamps specific to the CQ range. Processing includes 4 FX engines (with FX Assist), 4 DCAs and 4 mute groups, plus Gain and Feedback assistants and Automatic Mic Mixing. Control is via a 7" capacitive touchscreen, three custom rotaries and three SoftKeys — the CQ-18T has no physical motorised channel faders.
It also works as a 24×22 USB-B audio interface (48/96 kHz), records to SD card, plays stereo Bluetooth and includes dual-band Wi-Fi for wireless control through the CQ MixPad and CQ4You apps.
