History & design
The Mackie DL1608 is a 16-channel digital mixer unveiled at Winter NAMM 2012 and shipped the same year. Its concept: a chassis housing 16 Onyx mic preamps, 24-bit / 48 kHz Cirrus Logic converters and the digital processing, driven entirely from an iPad slotted into a front bay or remotely over Wi-Fi.
Each channel offers a high-pass filter, a 4-band EQ, a gate and a compressor; outputs get a 31-band graphic EQ and a compressor/limiter, with reverb and delay effects. Connectivity includes 12 XLR, 4 XLR/TRS combo inputs, six aux sends and an XLR main output.
The Master Fader app handles the main mix; the companion My Fader app lets performers control their own monitor mix from a separate iOS device. The original version uses the 30-pin connector, replaced by a Lightning variant on later units. The DL1608 launched a DL range later joined by the DL806 and DL32R.
