Trident

Trident began in 1967 as a London recording studio (Trident Studios) founded by Norman and Barry Sheffield. Around 1970-1971 the in-house engineering team built its own desks; the legendary A-Range (1971) spun off the manufacturer Trident Audio Developments (TRIAD). The B-Range, Fleximix, TSM and Series 80/80B/80C consoles followed. In 1981 the company was bought by its management, Malcolm Toft and Jack Hartfield, who sold it in 1988 to Reylon plc (a clause barred Toft from building consoles for three years, leading him to found MTA in 1992). Later owned by David Stocks, Trident Audio Developments ceased trading in 2002; the brand, IP and assets were acquired by PMI Audio, which later revived the name. The original British brand thus disappeared in 2002.
